SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND HOME

Rethinking a Vintage Victorian

2013/2014

In the Southern New England Home feature, interior designer Jocelyn Chiappone of Digs Design Company was highlighted for her exceptional work on a Victorian home overlooking Greenwich Bay. Chiappone was tasked with modernizing the 112-year-old home while preserving its grandeur and charm. She successfully merged traditional and modern elements, creating a comfortable and stylish living environment for the family of five.

Chiappone’s design approach included incorporating nautical-inspired elements, such as driftwood-inspired tile and a porthole mirror in the son’s bathroom. In the living room, she created a serene space using soft blues and creams, while adding contemporary accents like a lacquered coffee table and geometric carpet. Chiappone also introduced bold, dramatic features, such as a cocoa bead chandelier and aqua-colored ceiling paint in the dining room.

She emphasized the importance of a great team, acknowledging that her designs wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration of contractor Paul Norbury, painter Ryan Somers, and photographer Debby Krim. Chiappone’s innovative use of custom cabinetry, marble backsplashes, and reworked built-ins demonstrated her expertise in maximizing the potential of both old and new spaces.

Her ability to blend vintage charm with modern sophistication made this project a standout, earning high praise from the homeowners for her creativity, attention to detail, and dedication to exceeding their expectations. This project showcases Chiappone’s reputation as a talented and versatile designer in Rhode Island.
