SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND HOME
Beach House fit for Mermaids
2018/2019
In the 2018-2019 issue of Southern New England Home Magazine, interior designer Jocelyn Chiappone, founder of Digs Design Company, transformed a waterfront Rhode Island retreat into a feminine and inviting sanctuary. Chiappone adeptly blended her client's personal style with functional design elements, resulting in a space that is both elegant and practical for family gatherings.
Chiappone collaborated closely with her client, Cathy, to create a home that reflected her desire for a "spa-like, light and airy" atmosphere with vibrant accents. She notes, "I loved incorporating elements like the ModShop glass table with lucite legs in the dining room. It makes for a wonderful juxtaposition in a beach house."
The master suite, affectionately referred to as Cathy's "condo within the house," features a calming celadon hand-knotted carpet and design elements that promote relaxation. Chiappone utilized large-scale silver leaf faux bois mirrors over the nightstands to enhance the sense of space and reflect the serene backyard.
Upstairs, Chiappone designed three distinct guest suites, each with its own crisp, summery personality, ensuring comfort and individuality for all visitors. She also thoughtfully addressed the upstairs landing area, drawing inspiration from the nearby round window to inform the design of the space.
