NEW ENGLAND HOME

CAPE & ISLANDS 2023
In a recent feature, Jocelyn Chiappone, founder of Digs Design Company, undertook a transformative renovation of a midcentury waterfront home in Chatham, Massachusetts. Collaborating closely with the homeowners, Chiappone infused the residence with rich colors, textures, and a blend of classic Cape Cod aesthetics and contemporary flair.
The homeowners, familiar with Chiappone's work, sought her expertise to bring their vision to life. The wife expressed her satisfaction, stating, "I had a strong sense of what I wanted in our new/old home, and she and her team were geniuses at bringing me rich, beautiful colors and textures and incorporating that classic Cape feel with a bit of edge."
One of the standout features of the renovation is the use of pecky cypress paneling in the living room and study. This material, uncommon in New England, adds a painterly and textured appearance to the spaces. Chiappone's willingness to explore such unique materials showcases her commitment to personalized design.
Throughout the home, Chiappone incorporated quirky details and tributes to the home's midcentury origins. Elements like flat-front and Shaker cabinetry in the kitchen, a vintage bamboo hat rack in the mudroom, and doses of rattan and wicker throughout pay homage to the home's history while infusing it with modern touches.
This project exemplifies Chiappone's ability to blend classic and contemporary elements, resulting in a home that is both timeless and reflective of the homeowners' unique style. Her thoughtful design choices and attention to detail have transformed this Chatham residence into a vibrant and inviting space.
